Visited a dairy unit it had good structure, ear-tagged cows for traceability, clean housing. But here's the thing: most smallholder dairy farmers in Kenya still sell raw milk at the farm gate for the lowest margin in the whole value chain. The real money is downstream yoghurt, mala, ghee, even paneer for local markets. A farmer with 5–10 cows who invests in basic processing can 2–3x their revenue per liter versus selling raw. Value addition is where the margin actually lives.
